Yellow faced Parrot
P. flavifrons fiavifrons
Description: This species is larger than those described previously; it is mainly green, paler and brighter on the rump, lower under parts and under tail coverts. The feathers of the upper parts and breast have bright green edges. The forehead, crown and upper part of the cheeks are yellow and the thighs are marked with yellow in some birds.
The tail and flight feathers are olive brown. The upper mandible is dusky horn colour and the lower mandible whitish. The iris is red. Length: about 29 cm (11,1 in).
Immature birds are yellowish olivegreen on the head instead of yellow. The under wing coverts have broad, yellowish green edges.
Range/Habitat: Little is known of this parrot's wild life. It inhabits the highlands of Ethiopia and has often been observed in the company of Abyssinian Lovebirds. It is found in flocks of up to about 20 individuals.
P. f. aurantiiceps
Description: There is orange on the head where it is yellow in the nominate race.
Range/Habitat: This race is from north and central Ethiopia.
